Chapter 12 - Footsteps on the Porch

A slow, heavy floorboard creaked on the porch outside.

Footsteps approached my heavy front oak entrance door fast today.

I stood up from the porch table with lightning speed.

My hand reached inside my blazer for my licensed sidearm.

My fingers closed tightly around the cold steel weapon grip.

The electronic deadbolt lock chimed with a soft beep sound.

The keycard reader flashed green on the door frame.

Whoever was outside held a master digital keycard device today.

The heavy oak front door swung open slowly inside house.

A tall man stepped into the dimly lit hallway space.

He wore an immaculate, expensive dark tailored silk suit jacket.

His silver hair was styled neatly, his sharp eyes cold.

His facial features matched the photo down to every line.

It was my biological father, standing right before my eyes.

He did not pull a weapon or attempt to run.

He looked at my raised firearm and smiled very warmly.

A chilling, terrifying smile of pure paternal pride today.

"Lower the gun, Olivia," my father whispered softly now.

"You did exceptionally well defeating Jason at the house."
