Chapter 2 - The Cut Utility Lines

I forced my weak body up using the wall.

I dragged my heavy feet toward the kitchen sink counter.

My dry throat burned with intense, overwhelming, unbearable thirst.

I reached out and turned the chrome water faucet handle.

Not a single drop of water came out of pipe.

I ran to the main hallway wall light switch fast.

I flipped the plastic light toggle switch up and down.

The ceiling lights remained completely pitch black and dead.

Jason had shut off the main water and power valves.

He cut off every single utility line before leaving today.

I stumbled toward the heavy, locked front oak door.

I pounded my weak, trembling fists against the hard wood.

"Help! Somebody, please help me open this door!"

My hoarse voice echoed uselessly off the bare walls.

Outside, the engine of Jason's luxury sedan roared loudly.

Tires crunched against the gravel driveway as they left.

My cheating husband was driving away to a European vacation.

He left his sick wife trapped inside an abandoned home.

My vision blurred as total, paralyzing exhaustion took over.
