Chapter 4 - The Hospital Investigation

I woke up inside a bright, quiet hospital room.
Clear intravenous fluids were dripping slowly into my arm vein.
Detective Laura Bennett stood beside my elevated hospital bed.
She wore a sharp navy blazer and a stern expression.
Detective Bennett laid several glossy security photos on my blanket.
The photos showed high-definition outdoor security camera feeds.
"Your husband didn't just leave you to die, Olivia."
Detective Bennett explained in a calm, serious, steady voice.
"He came back three hours later... carrying every bottle."
I looked down at the printed color security photographs carefully.
On screen, Jason stood near our outdoor trash cans.
He was throwing all my prescription medicine bottles into fire.
He incinerated my heart medication and specialized autoimmune pills.
He wanted to ensure I had zero access to medicine.
He engineered a silent crime to look like accidental neglect.
He wanted my multi-million-dollar life insurance policy payout cash.
Pure, freezing, lethal anger ignited deep inside my soul.
"Where is he now, Detective Bennett?" I asked quietly.
"He is currently vacationing on a yacht in Europe."
"Then let him enjoy his trip," I answered coldly.
