Chapter 6 - The Return Home

The heavy brass front door handle slowly turned downward now.

Jason unlocked the front door using his private metal key.

He stepped into the sunlit, clean suburban foyer space proudly.

He rolled his heavy leather travel suitcase across the floor.

His face wore a relaxed, confident, victorious summer vacation smile.

Suddenly, his eyes locked onto the figures waiting inside foyer.

Detective Bennett stood in the center with two armed officers.

I stepped forward out of the shadow into warm light.

I wore a sharp white suit, standing tall and strong.

Jason froze in pure, absolute, horrifying, paralyzing terror.

The color completely drained from his face in two seconds.

His heavy leather suitcase handle slipped from his numb fingers.

The suitcase crashed loudly against the hardwood floor tiles today.

His mouth worked silently, but no sound came out throat.

He looked at me as if looking at a ghost.

I took two slow, deliberate steps toward his standing position.

My hazel eyes locked onto his trembling, sweating, terrified face.

"You should've made sure I never survived," I whispered.

My quiet voice cut through the room like razor steel.
