Chapter 10 - LILY’S MEDICINE

Richard confessed that Olivia instructed him to add drops to Lily’s allergy medicine.

She said it reduced tantrums.

He never asked the pediatrician.

He saw Lily become sleepy and withdrawn.

He continued.

That choice ended any remaining doubt about custody.

The drug came from Dr. Vale, who claimed it was an approved calming supplement.

Independent testing showed it was a controlled sedative.

Vale had used similar prescriptions in other Continuity cases.

The medical board suspended him.

Federal prosecutors charged him.

Lily recovered under independent care.

She asked whether Daddy made her sick.

I answered truthfully but carefully.

“He gave you medicine that was not safe.”

“Did he know?”

“He knew you were getting sleepier and did not stop.”

She cried.

Not because she fully understood.

Because betrayal can enter before language.

Richard requested a video apology.

Her advocate refused until Lily wanted contact.

She did not.

The criminal trial moved forward.

Richard faced aggravated assault, poisoning, conspiracy, fraud, and child endangerment.

Olivia faced trafficking, conspiracy, medical coercion, and attempted theft.

Vanessa faced evidence tampering, conspiracy, and kidnapping assistance.

Victor and Michael remained defendants.

Margaret faced charges related to Continuity participation but received cooperation consideration.

Julian faced bribery and obstruction.

Eleanor faced historical kidnapping but prosecutors considered Catherine’s original instruction and later unlawful concealment separately.

The law had to distinguish rescue from retention.

Intent from duration.

Fear from profit.

No easy category fit everything.

Catherine testified.

She described losing both daughters through different forms of control.

One hidden by love.

One raised by power.

Then she admitted creating the trust that made us valuable targets.

She believed money would protect us.

Instead, it gave adults a reason to own us.

The court transferred Sterling Holdings into temporary public-benefit management with employee and survivor trustees.

Neither daughter gained immediate control.

I supported it.

Margaret hesitated, then agreed.

Our first shared decision did not make us sisters emotionally.

It prevented the old rivalry.

Then Sterling Holdings discovered a dormant account named LILY SUCCESSION.

Created before my daughter’s birth.

Beneficiary: Lily Vance.

Controller: Vanessa Brooks.

Vanessa was not merely Richard’s mistress.

She had been assigned as Lily’s replacement guardian if I disappeared.

The affair was part of the succession plan.

Vanessa had expected to become my daughter’s mother.
