Chapter 7 - JULIAN’S SUITCASE

Julian surrendered the suitcase immediately.

The medicine bottle remained inside, sealed.

Independent testing confirmed the liquid was safe.

Margaret’s warning was false—or based on a different bottle.

Why create suspicion toward Julian?

Because the sisters divided made Victor stronger.

Margaret admitted she received the medication claim through a Continuity message.

She had repeated it without verification.

Even a whistleblower could spread manipulation.

Julian opened his own records.

He had spent twenty-five years tracking me, Eleanor, Victor, and the Vances. He did not approach earlier because Eleanor threatened to move me again.

He waited.

Too long.

His patience allowed Richard to reach me first.

He accepted that.

Then he revealed why he attended Lily’s party.

Richard invited him to discuss a luxury development.

Julian recognized me from the first moment.

He also recognized Margaret watching through a remote security feed.

The birthday event was bigger than Olivia’s plan.

The twins were being tested.

Which sister would reveal herself?

Which ring would appear?

Which child would trigger the inheritance line?

Lily’s fourth birthday mattered because the Sterling trust recognized descendants at age four through an old succession clause.

The party date activated her rights.

Richard’s assault forced me to leave before midnight so Olivia could file documents claiming abandonment.

My daughter’s birthday had been selected as a legal deadline.

Rebecca filed the original will with federal court.

The judge recognized Maya Sutton and Margaret Sterling as equal provisional heirs.

Neither could control assets alone.

A third independent trustee was required.

Victor nominated Julian.

Margaret nominated herself.

I nominated a survivor-controlled fiduciary board.

The court accepted my proposal temporarily.

Power moved away from blood.

Victor was furious.

Then Sterling Holdings’ servers locked.

A message appeared:

PRIMARY HEIR OVERRIDE ACTIVATED.

Someone possessed Catherine’s original biometric authorization.

The system recognized one daughter as primary despite the equal will.

Accounts began transferring offshore.

We had six hours before the process completed.

My ring opened one half of the authorization.

Margaret’s opened the other.

But the override required Catherine’s voice.

She was dead.

Continuity had built a model.

Or Catherine was alive.

Eleanor said she saw Catherine’s body.

Julian said the funeral was closed-casket.

Victor controlled the hospital.

Another false death remained possible.

The voice authorization came through the system.

A woman said:

“I, Catherine Sterling, recognize my eldest daughter as sole heir.”

The accounts selected MADELINE.

Me.

Margaret stared at the screen.

“You did this.”

“I didn’t.”

The transfer made me look like the sister trying to seize everything.

Victor’s plan shifted from hiding me to turning Margaret against me.

Then my phone displayed a live video.

Catherine Sterling sat inside a private room wearing a silver orchid necklace.

Older.

Alive.

Victor stood behind her.

He said, “Come home, Madeline.”

My mother looked into the camera.

“Bring both rings.”
