Chapter 9 - VANESSA’S SECOND VIDEO

Victor forced Vanessa to record another video.

She claimed I planned the cake assault with Richard to create public sympathy and seize the Sterling fortune.

Edited rehearsal footage supported the lie.

It showed me entering the Westchester training room.

I had never been there.

The woman was Margaret.

Same face.

Different identity.

Victor used twin confusion to attack both of us.

Margaret offered to testify publicly that the woman was her.

Her attorney warned it could expose her earlier participation.

She did it anyway.

Not heroism.

Accountability.

The full training footage showed Margaret entering under Victor’s orders, then secretly copying the birthday script.

She had known the cake assault was planned.

She warned me only at the nursing home, after it happened.

“Why not stop it?”

“I needed the upload to expose Continuity.”

My humiliation had become evidence she considered necessary.

I told her exactly what that cost.

She did not ask forgiveness.

The public believed some of Vanessa’s lie anyway.

Truth never erased every audience’s preferred story.

Rebecca focused on court, not headlines.

Victor’s accounts showed payments to Richard for years.

Richard testified in exchange for no promise of leniency.

He admitted meeting Michael Sterling—Victor’s son—who trained him to destabilize me.

Another hidden relative.

Michael had posed as a guest at the birthday party.

He was the man who locked the west gate after Julian entered.

Federal agents identified him through footage.

He had fled with Victor.

The family network was becoming smaller but more dangerous.

Then Julian contacted Hayes through a coded message.

He was being held inside a yacht off Montauk.

Vanessa was there voluntarily.

She had chosen Victor after learning Richard never planned to marry her.

Victor promised money and protection.

Her victim claim ended where her choices became clear.

Agents boarded the yacht.

Julian was rescued.

Vanessa and Michael were arrested.

Victor escaped by helicopter.

Julian admitted he had followed Victor into the tunnel hoping to recover Catherine’s private ledger before federal agents saw it.

The ledger contained evidence of Julian’s own illegal payments to protect me.

Bribes.

False documents.

Surveillance.

He feared prosecution.

His private pursuit allowed Victor to capture him.

Again, secrecy weakened rescue.

Julian surrendered the ledger and accepted charges.

Catherine’s family did not produce a clean savior.

The trial began with everyone compromised.

That made the documentary evidence more important.

Then Lily developed a fever.

At the hospital, doctors found a rare sedative in her blood.

The exposure occurred before the party.

Someone had been dosing her slowly.

Olivia’s visits.

Daniel—Richard.

Vanessa.

Ashley? No Ashley in this story.

Our nanny.

Or me, through medicine I trusted.

The sedative matched a prescription issued by Dr. Vale under my name.

The same doctor preparing my insanity claim.

The poisoning plan intended to make Lily ill while in my care after leaving the party.

I would appear negligent or unstable.

May you like

But the dosage pattern began months earlier.

Richard had been weakening our daughter long before the cake.
