Chapter 12 - THE THIRD SISTER

DNA confirmed Vanessa Brooks was our biological sister.

Catherine gave birth to three daughters.

Victor took Margaret.

Eleanor escaped with me.

The third infant entered a private adoption network and grew up as Vanessa Brooks.

She did not learn the truth until Victor recruited her as an adult.

He told her Catherine chose the other two daughters and discarded her.

That wound made Vanessa easy to control.

She targeted my marriage because Victor promised the Sterling trust would recognize her if she replaced me.

Richard’s affair was not random.

It was another sister positioned against me.

Vanessa had spent years envying a life that was itself abusive and controlled.

Understanding her motive did not erase her choices.

She filmed Lily.

Helped tamper with evidence.

Joined Victor after Julian’s kidnapping.

She remained responsible.

But the family story changed again.

Three daughters.

Three separate systems.

Maya raised outside wealth.

Margaret raised inside control.

Vanessa raised in abandonment.

Victor taught each to see the others as thieves.

Catherine cried when she saw the DNA result.

Vanessa refused contact.

Her choice.

Margaret asked to meet her.

Refused.

I did not ask.

No forced reunion.

Catherine survived surgery and entered rehabilitation.

Sterling Holdings’ permanent structure came before the court.

The old trust divided ownership among daughters and descendants.

We all rejected direct control.

Even Vanessa, through counsel, agreed her share should enter a managed restitution fund rather than personal authority while appeals continued.

The company became employee-controlled with independent trustees.

Family blood no longer dictated leadership.

Richard’s luxury mansion and Long Island estate were seized.

The backyard where the cake assault happened became evidence property.

Lily asked whether we could take the pool.

“No.”

“Good. I don’t like that house.”

We moved into a smaller home near her school.

I kept waitressing temporarily while building a hospitality company funded by my own savings, not Sterling money.

People thought that was symbolic.

It was practical.

Work grounded me.

Then the viral birthday video generated millions in licensing requests.

I refused commercial use.

The footage remained evidence and educational material only with Lily’s identity protected.

Her humiliation would not become another family asset.

Catherine supported the decision.

Margaret did too.

Vanessa’s attorney objected because she recorded it.

The court ruled she could not profit from criminal conduct.

Then a package arrived at my new home.

Inside was a perfect replica of Lily’s pink birthday cake.

No explosives.

No chemicals.

Beneath the frosting sat a flash drive.

The file contained another birthday video.

A different mansion.

A different mother.

A different little girl.

Same script.

Same line.

“That’ll teach you to embarrass me.”

May you like

Continuity had sold the Vance method to other families.

The network was larger than Sterling.
