Chapter 10 - The Folder My Father Left Me

I opened the folder carefully.
Inside were letters.
Legal documents.
And one recording.
My father’s voice.
I hadn’t heard it in years.
“Rachel, if you’re listening to this, someone has tried to take what belongs to Eli.”
My breath stopped.
He knew.
Years before.
He knew someone would come.
He explained the trust wasn’t only about money.
It was protection.
A safeguard against people who believed children could be used as leverage.
My father had prepared for this.
But he never expected I would be the one fighting.
The recording ended with one warning.
“Trust evidence, not promises.”
The phrase stayed with me.
Because too many people had promised me things.
Monica.
Daniel.
Even people I loved.
Dana took the recording.
“This helps prove intent.”
Then her phone rang.
She answered.
Her expression changed.
“We found him.”
Everyone moved.
But before Dana left, she looked at me.
“There’s one problem.”
“What?”
May you like
“He wasn’t acting alone.”
