Chapter 13 - The Letter Monica Kept Hidden

The envelope was old.

My father’s handwriting was on the front.

But Monica had kept it.

For years.

I looked at her.

“Why?”

She cried.

“Because I was afraid.”

Inside was a letter.

My father warned me about people who would try to control Eli.

He named no one.

But he described everything.

The manipulation.

The lies.

The fake accusations.

He knew power could corrupt people.

The final line was simple.

“Your son doesn’t need a perfect mother. He needs a mother who refuses to surrender.”

I looked at Eli.

And finally understood.

This fight was never about proving I was perfect.

It was about refusing to let people rewrite the truth.

Then Dana arrived.

The final arrest had happened.

The case was complete.

Or so we thought.

Because Dana was holding another folder.

A folder marked confidential.

“Rachel…”

I looked at her.

“What?”

She hesitated.

“This was found in the suspect’s office.”

She opened it.

Inside was a photograph.

A photograph of Eli.
