Nobody moved.
My former assistant, Daniel, stood at the doorway.
He looked exhausted.
Not confident.
Not threatening.
Afraid.
Dana immediately stepped forward.
“Mr. Collins.”
Daniel raised his hands.
“I’m not here to run.”
He placed the folder on the table.
“I’m here because I know what they did.”
I didn’t trust him.
Not after everything.
“What do you want?”
He looked at Eli.
Then back at me.
“To fix what I helped start.”
Inside the folder were emails.
Messages.
Financial records.
Proof that Monica had been manipulated.
Proof that someone had planned the entire CPS complaint.
But Daniel wasn’t innocent.
He admitted he helped access records.
Because he believed he was exposing corruption.
Then he discovered the truth.
They weren’t protecting Eli.
They were targeting him.
Dana reviewed the documents.
“There’s one person missing.”
Daniel nodded.
“The person who paid everyone.”
I looked at him.
“Who?”
He opened the final page.
A company name appeared.
One I recognized.
My own family’s former business partner.
Someone who had lost millions when my father changed his will.
