Chapter 5 - The Document Hidden For Eli

Monica finally admitted she had found the document.
But she refused to explain.
Not fully.
Dana pressed her.
“What was in it?”
Monica looked at me.
“I thought you were hiding something.”
I almost laughed.
Because that was the irony.
I was hiding something.
But not what she thought.
I opened the locked compartment in my briefcase.
Inside was the original document.
A trust agreement.
Created after my husband died.
The first man Eli ever called father.
My son’s biological father had left something behind.
Protection.
A financial trust.
A legal safeguard.
Something only Eli could access when he became an adult.
Monica discovered it.
And she thought if she made me look unfit, she could gain control.
Dana read the papers.
“This trust cannot be accessed by anyone except Eli.”
Exactly.
Monica didn’t want to protect him.
She wanted control.
My parents looked devastated.
They finally understood.
Their daughter wasn’t the problem.
Their daughter was the target.
Then Dana found another message.
A conversation between Monica and someone unknown.
One sentence stood out.
“Once Rachel loses custody, the trust becomes vulnerable.”
My blood ran cold.
Someone else was involved.
Someone who knew about Eli’s inheritance.
Dana looked at me.
“Who else knew about this trust?”
I thought carefully.
Then one name came to mind.
Someone I never expected.
May you like
Someone close to my military career.
