Chapter 4 - OLIVIA’S MOTHER

Olivia’s biological mother was Anna Collins, a nurse who worked at Saint Matthew’s maternity unit.

She entered the Carter study willingly after Michael promised fertility treatment.

When Olivia was born, Dr. Vale told Anna the baby died.

Anna suffered a breakdown and was placed inside Carter Behavioral Residence.

She had remained there under guardianship.

The guardian was Michael.

He controlled her visits, medical care, and identity records.

Federal agents raided the residence.

Anna was found alive, heavily medicated, but cognitively aware.

She had spent seven years insisting her child survived.

Doctors labeled it fixed maternal delusion.

The delusion was true.

Olivia’s reunion required care.

No dramatic embrace.

She knew Anna only as a stranger.

Anna saw her daughter and began shaking.

She did not reach without permission.

“My name is Anna.”

Olivia hid behind Emma.

Emma held her hand.

The two girls had no full biological relationship.

They were still sisters through every night, secret, punishment, and escape they shared.

No DNA report could erase that.

Anna revealed that Emma’s biological mother was also alive.

Caroline Brooks.

Dr. Vale’s younger sister.

Caroline tried to expose the trial after Emma’s birth.

Vale declared her unstable and transferred her to another facility.

Lily’s mother was unknown.

Dr. Vale claimed she carried Lily herself.

Medical records contradicted that.

She had never been pregnant.

Subject C came from a third woman.

The family used motherhood as a replaceable role.

Then Michael requested a private meeting with Officer Reed.

He offered Caroline’s location in exchange for reduced charges.

Reed refused to negotiate personally.

Federal prosecutor Rebecca Sloan handled the offer.

Michael provided a storage key.

Inside a climate-controlled unit, investigators found boxes of records and an old video.

Caroline gave birth to Emma while Michael stood beside the bed.

After delivery, Caroline asked to hold her baby.

Vale said no.

Michael looked away.

The video showed Caroline screaming as the infant left.

Then Michael signed a guardianship transfer.

His signature was deliberate.

Not forced.

He had chosen the program over the mother.

Caroline’s current file listed her as deceased.

No body.

No grave.

The pattern suggested another hidden facility.

Before agents could search, the police-station evidence room alarmed.

The syringe envelope was gone.

Security footage showed Officer Reed entering the room.

Reed had been at the hospital all night.

Someone wearing his face stole the evidence.

The Carter protocol included police replacements too.
