Chapter 7 - The Person Who Found Me

I knew him before he reached us.

Not personally.

But by reputation.

The kind of person who never arrived without a reason.

The sheriff stepped between us.

The man stopped.

“Sheriff.”

The sheriff didn’t move.

“You’re far from where you belong.”

The man smiled.

“I’m exactly where I need to be.”

My hand tightened around my keys.

The same keys I used every day.

The same keys that represented the normal life I built.

The man looked at my Walmart vest.

Then smiled.

“Six years.”

I said nothing.

“You really believed you could disappear.”

The sheriff looked at me.

“Callie.”

A warning.

I understood.

The past had finally caught up.

Then the man said:

“They need you back.”

I looked at him.

“Who?”

He smiled.

And that was the worst answer.

May you like

“Everyone who thought you were gone.”

📖 Chapter 8 reveals why Callie’s disappearance mattered and what she left behind six years earlier. 👇
