Chapter 9 - The Secret Six Years Couldn’t Bury

I wanted to leave.
Drive away.
Forget everything.
But I knew better.

The sheriff helped move the attackers away.
Then he asked me the question I feared.
“Are you ready to stop hiding?”
I looked at the Walmart entrance.
The ordinary world I created.
Then at the tattoo beneath my watch.
“No.”
A pause.
“But I’m tired of running.”
The sheriff nodded.
That was enough.
The man from the SUV handed me a sealed envelope.
I didn’t open it.
Not there.
Not yet.
