The man wanted me to return.

I refused.

Not because I wasn’t curious.

Because I knew curiosity was dangerous.

I walked away.

I changed my name.

The Walmart vest wasn’t a disguise.

It was peace.

The man from the SUV didn’t understand that.

I thought peace was.
