Two massive black armored military SUVs rounded the corner.
Their heavy tires screeched loudly against the asphalt road.
They sped down Main Street with emergency lights flashing.
They slammed to a halt, blocking Vance's cruiser in.
The heavy vehicle doors flew open with loud thuds.
Four federal marshals stepped out wearing full tactical gear.
They carried heavy automatic rifles trained directly on Vance.
"Federal Marshals! Drop the weapon immediately!" the marshal barked.
"Put your hands behind your head right now!"
Sheriff Vance froze on the sidewalk like a stone.
The heavy black pistol slipped from his sweaty fingers.
It clattered loudly against the hard concrete sidewalk floor.
Vance slowly raised his hands into the clear air.
Two marshals rushed forward with lightning speed and precision.
They kicked the dropped pistol far away from him.
They slammed Vance face-first against the hot hood cruiser.
Cold steel handcuffs clicked tightly around his thick wrists.
Vance groaned in pain, his arrogance completely shattered now.
"You have no jurisdiction here!" Vance whimpered desperately.
"I am the elected sheriff of this county!"
The lead marshal pulled a paper warrant from vest.
"Your county authority was revoked five minutes ago, Vance."
"You are under arrest for federal extortion and treason."
Amelia stepped forward toward the lead marshal with tears.
She put on a pitiful, innocent victim act instantly.
"Officer, thank God you arrived in time!" Amelia cried.
"This corrupt sheriff was holding me hostage all afternoon!"
"I had nothing to do with any of his crimes!"
I turned my head and looked directly at Amelia.
"Stop lying, Amelia," I said in a cold voice.
"I saw your signature in his offshore payment file."
Amelia's face went ghost white within a single second.
She took a step back, her mouth hanging open.
"You... you checked my private bank files?" she gasped.
"I checked every file connected to Vance," I replied.
