Chapter 10 - TRAUMA ROOM 2

Hospital records showed a travel nurse named Hannah James joined the emergency department six months earlier.
She worked opposite shifts from me.
Her face remained hidden behind masks and goggles.
Her biometric file was corrupted.
Hannah was our half sister, daughter of Samuel Vale and my mother.
Vale had placed her inside our family before birth and later removed her.
She grew up inside the program believing my parents chose me and abandoned her.
Thomas recruited her.
She installed the tracking camera in Trauma Room 2.
She arranged Daniel’s ambulance destination.
She disabled the lights during the cast removal.
The emergency-room event was not solely Thomas’s plan.
Hannah wanted the Jenkins family gathered.
Me.
Rebecca through the investigation.
Clara through Daniel.
Marcus through his father.
She called it a reunion of accountability.
We called it endangerment.
Hannah disappeared before agents identified her.
She contacted me privately.
“You had a normal life.”
“I had a life without the truth.”
“You became a doctor.”
“So did Thomas.”
“I became nobody.”
Her pain was real.
Her actions remained hers.
She revealed that the foul odor inside the cast was designed to trigger my memory of Saint Mercy.
As a resident, I once complained about the same odor near the basement.
Vale told me it was plumbing.
I accepted the answer.
Hannah wanted me to experience the consequence of not opening the door then.
“I was twenty-three.”
“Thomas was eight.”
The comparison hurt.
But responsibility must match knowledge and power.
I had failed to question enough.
I had not created the system.
Hannah rejected distinctions because anger had flattened every role.
She demanded access to the master database in exchange for surrender.
Prosecutors refused.
Then she entered the hospital disguised as security and reached Daniel’s room.
Clara recognized her eyes.
Hannah did not harm Daniel.
She placed a sealed letter beside him.
Inside was the location of the final missing children.
She wanted credit for rescuing them.
Federal agents found four children alive.
The information mattered.
The illegal entry still mattered.
Hannah surrendered afterward.
During interrogation, she admitted helping Thomas build the public exposure plan but rejected his escalating violence.
She called herself the corrective branch.
Another person believing motive created authority.
The federal trial expanded to include Vale, Thomas in absentia, Hannah, David Cole, Martha, and multiple administrators.
Rebecca and Marcus faced separate charges related to evidence and participation.
I testified about my old signatures and the emergency-room event.
The defense asked whether my guilt made me exaggerate Vale’s crimes.
“I separate what I regret from what the evidence proves.”
That sentence became the foundation of the case.
Then Thomas released his final broadcast.
He stood inside a hospital room holding a cast saw.
Behind him lay Samuel Vale’s unconscious wife.

A woman everyone believed died thirty years earlier.
My mother.
