Chapter 8 - MY STOLEN SIGNATURE

The order came from a hospital account created in my name.
Vale had cloned my credentials years earlier.
But video from the procedure showed a woman resembling me fitting a cast onto four-year-old Daniel.
Same height.
Same voice.
A scar near the right eyebrow that I did not have.
My older sister, Rebecca Jenkins.
She disappeared when I was twelve.
My parents told me she ran away.
Rebecca had actually entered Vale custody after developing seizures.
Samuel Vale trained her as a medical technician and later used her resemblance to impersonate me.
She signed orders under my identity.
She treated Daniel’s first cast.
The network used family similarities to blur responsibility.
Federal agents found Rebecca alive at an overseas clinic.
She surrendered voluntarily.
Our reunion occurred through secure video.
She looked older, thinner, and almost calm.
“I watched your career,” she said.
“You used my name.”
“Vale said it protected you.”
“It implicated me.”
“Yes.”
Rebecca had helped children at times by lowering device settings and falsifying transfer dates.
She had also fitted casts, administered drugs, and concealed evidence.
Victim and participant.
Both.
She identified Samuel Vale’s final facility.
A private pediatric research center beneath an airport hospital.
He planned to leave the country with three children and the master patient database.
Federal agents prepared the raid.
Thomas learned the location too.
He arrived first.
Security footage showed him entering with a surgical team and locking the facility.
He intended to force Vale into a recorded confession.
Children remained inside.
Revenge again placed them at risk.
I joined the federal medical team because I understood the cast devices.
My suspension was temporarily modified under supervision.
We entered through the airport service tunnel.
Inside, Vale and Thomas faced each other in the central operating room.
Three sedated children lay behind glass.
Thomas held the controls to the ventilation system.
Vale held the encryption key to their medical devices.
Each man threatened what the other valued.
Thomas wanted confession.
Vale wanted escape.
I spoke through the intercom.
“Release the children first.”
Both ignored me.
Daniel’s voice came through a second channel.
He had asked to record a message.
“Dr. Father, you said kids obey because adults know more.”
Vale looked toward the speaker.
Daniel continued.
“You don’t know what we want because you never ask.”
Thomas lowered his hand slightly.
Vale did not.
He activated one child’s device.
The monitor alarmed.
Thomas attacked him.
Federal agents entered.
Vale was arrested.
Thomas escaped through the ventilation corridor.
The children survived.
The master database was secured.
But one file had been deleted.
PATIENT 9 — ORIGIN.
Daniel’s history before age four remained hidden.

Martha might not have taken him from a playground.
He may have been born inside the program.
