Chapter 15 - Harrison’s Final Night

The recording began with Harrison coughing.

Maya was four years old at the time.

She had apparently left the rabbit in his library.

Julian’s voice entered the room.

“You need to change the trust.”

“No.”

“You gave Claire control of assets she didn’t earn.”

“She earned more than you ever did.”

Julian slammed something against the desk.

Harrison continued.

“If you touch Claire or Maya, the records go to the authorities.”

Then Evelyn spoke.

“Julian, stop.”

Claire looked toward Evelyn.

She sat in a hospital chair recovering from the fall.

Her face filled with shame.

The recording continued.

Julian demanded the combination to Harrison’s safe.

Harrison refused.

A struggle followed.

Then Harrison cried out.

Evelyn begged Julian to call an ambulance.

Julian answered, “Not until he signs.”

For twenty-three minutes, Harrison suffered symptoms of a stroke while Julian withheld medical help.

Evelyn finally called emergency services after he collapsed.

By then, the damage was severe.

Harrison died two weeks later.

Julian had not directly caused the stroke.

But he had delayed treatment to force a signature.

The district attorney added charges of elder abuse, coercion, and felony murder related to Harrison’s death.

Evelyn agreed to testify.

She knew it would expose her own crimes.

“I helped create the man who did this,” she told Claire. “I protected him every time he hurt someone.”

“You cannot undo that.”

“I know.”

“But you can stop lying.”

Evelyn surrendered financial records proving Julian had bribed medical professionals, housekeepers, and court witnesses.

She also admitted helping conceal Rebecca.

Rebecca listened without expression.

“I don’t forgive you,” she said.

Evelyn nodded.

“I don’t expect you to.”

The custody court permanently removed Julian’s parental authority.

Because he was not Maya’s biological father and had obtained legal recognition through fraud, his guardianship claim collapsed.

Claire was confirmed as Maya’s sole legal parent.

But the criminal trial had not yet begun.

Julian remained convinced his money could save him.

His attorneys filed motions to exclude Maya’s recordings.

Then Judge Brooks discovered that one of Julian’s lawyers had secretly contacted a juror.

👉 Julian had lost control of Maya, but he was still trying to purchase the courtroom where his final judgment would be decided.
