Chapter 12 - Eleanor’s Last Accusation
Eleanor appeared in court wearing the same emerald-green suit she had worn at the hospital.
She looked composed.
Almost offended.
Her attorney claimed Clara had manipulated recordings and staged her injuries to gain control of Julian’s fortune.
He requested an independent psychiatric examination.
Clara agreed.
Not because Eleanor deserved another chance.
Because Clara wanted every lie destroyed publicly.
Three specialists evaluated her.
All reached the same conclusion.
Clara was mentally competent.
She showed signs of trauma caused by coercive control.
There was no evidence she posed any danger to her child.
Hospital photographs documented the bruises.
The building concierge confirmed Clara had been physically restrained at the penthouse.
The hidden hospital recording captured Eleanor admitting she knew the documents were prepared before examination.
Dominic testified.
The physician accepted a plea deal and confessed.
The household employees admitted they had been paid to provide false statements.
One by one, Eleanor’s defenses collapsed.
Then the prosecutor played the recording from Dominic’s files.
Eleanor’s own voice filled the courtroom.
“The mother is replaceable. The trust is not.”
Julian closed his eyes.
Clara held Hope in a private family room nearby.
She did not attend the entire hearing.
She had heard enough of Eleanor’s voice for one lifetime.
The judge denied Eleanor bail.
Charges included conspiracy, fraud, unlawful restraint, obstruction, evidence destruction, and attempted exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
Dominic pleaded guilty to reduced charges in exchange for cooperation.
The physician lost his license.
The staff members were convicted of assault and false reporting.
Julian was not criminally charged.
But he faced a civil lawsuit.
Clara filed for divorce the same day.
When the papers were served, Julian did not contest them.
He signed.
Then he transferred his interest in the Manhattan apartment to Clara.
