Chapter 3 - The Husband Who Believed Them

Julian entered the room furious.

He had received a call from his mother saying Clara had become violent.

He was told she had accused Eleanor of trying to steal the baby.

He was told she had refused medical treatment.

By the time he reached the hospital, he was prepared to confront a woman he believed had lost control.

Clara watched him enter.

For a moment, she thought he would see her fear.

Instead, his eyes went straight to the papers.

“You still haven’t signed?”

Her voice shook.

“Julian, please listen to me.”

“I’ve been listening for weeks.”

“To her.”

He looked toward Eleanor.

His mother lowered her eyes with practiced sadness.

Clara felt sick.

“Ask why I’m here.”

“You collapsed.”

“Ask what happened before that.”

Julian exhaled sharply.

“Clara, stop.”

She reached for his hand.

He moved away.

That hurt more than the bruises.

Eleanor stood near the foot of the bed.

“She has been creating scenes for months.”

“I have not.”

“She accused me of conspiring against her.”

“You are.”

Dominic stepped in.

“This reaction is exactly why the evaluation is necessary.”

Clara stared at Julian.

“They want control of the baby.”

“No one is taking our child.”

“Then why are custody papers on my bed?”

Julian picked up the documents.

He scanned the first page.

His expression changed slightly.

Eleanor noticed.

“It is temporary,” she said. “Only until Clara is stable.”

Clara laughed once.

The sound was exhausted and broken.

“You already chose a private facility.”

Julian looked at his mother.

“What facility?”

Eleanor answered too quickly.

“A recovery center.”

Clara whispered, “A locked one.”

Julian looked back at her.

For the first time, doubt appeared.

But Eleanor moved closer.

“She refused to let the nurse examine her legs.”

Julian turned.

“What is wrong with your legs?”

Clara pulled the blanket tighter.

“Nothing.”

Eleanor smiled faintly.

“See? Another performance.”

Julian stepped toward the bed.

“Show me.”

Clara shook her head.

“Please don’t.”

His fear became anger.

He grabbed the loose blanket.

May you like

And pulled.

👉 The moment Julian exposed the bruises, his mother’s entire story began to collapse.
