Evelyn’s will included an anti-coercion clause.
Any spouse who attempted to obtain control of Claire’s inheritance through fraud, violence, or concealed agreements would be permanently barred from benefiting from the estate.
The clause also authorized Hawthorne to pursue every related loss personally.
Arthur had not merely failed to gain Claire’s inheritance.
His forged agreement exposed him to direct financial liability.
Daniel presented the clause during an emergency board meeting.
Claire took Evelyn’s seat at the head of the table.
Richard’s former allies avoided her eyes.
Some had approved suspicious loans without asking questions.
Others suspected fraud but remained silent because Richard controlled promotions and bonuses.
Claire addressed them calmly.
“This company lent money based on trust. If we excuse fraud inside our own walls, every contract we hold becomes meaningless.”
The board voted unanimously to remove Richard and authorize a full forensic audit.
Claire also announced that all loans connected to Brooke and Arthur would be transferred to a special recovery team.
One director asked whether Claire intended to protect her husband from public exposure.
Claire looked at the reddish mark still visible near her jaw.
“No.”
That single answer changed the room.

Arthur’s consulting business had received commissions for directing borrowers to Hawthorne.

Arthur collected fees from both sides.
