Chapter 10 - Why Sarah Hated Him

Noah finally understood Sarah’s cruelty.
Every time she looked at him, she saw the choice that should have destroyed her.
Michael had transformed her worst act into a loving home.
He had raised Noah without knowing the person who abandoned him attended every family gathering.
Sarah could not tolerate his goodness.
So she attacked Noah.
If Noah became selfish, arrogant, or ungrateful, then perhaps Michael’s sacrifice would seem foolish.
Perhaps Sarah could believe she had not stolen anything valuable.
“You spent my whole life trying to make him regret me,” Noah said.
Sarah wiped her face.
“I was afraid you’d ask questions.”
“So you made me feel unwanted before I could learn who wanted me.”
“Rebecca wanted you.”
“Where is she?”
Sarah looked away.
“She died when you were ten.”
Noah’s breath caught.
“She searched for you for years. But I told her the adoption was sealed and Michael would lose you if she interfered.”
“Was that true?”
“No.”
Noah closed his eyes.
His biological mother had died believing she was protecting him by staying away.
