Chapter 16 - Sarah’s Last Attempt

Sarah’s fear turned into anger.

“This land belongs to the Hale family.”

Noah looked at her calmly.

“I am the Hale family.”

“You’re not blood.”

Michael slammed his palm against the table.

The sound silenced everyone.

“He is my son.”

Sarah stared at him.

“Michael, I’m your sister.”

“You left a newborn in freezing rain.”

“I knew you would find him.”

“You hoped I would.”

Sarah pointed at Noah.

“He came back because he wants the property.”

Noah almost laughed.

The title documents were in Michael’s name.

Noah had reserved no personal ownership.

The land could not be sold without Michael’s consent.

The trust would later support a rural emergency fund for abandoned and endangered children.

Sarah gained nothing.

Neither did Noah.

Michael looked at the woman who had mocked his son for years.

“You will leave my house.”

Sarah’s face collapsed.

“You can’t mean that.”

“I should have said it twenty-five years ago.”

The neighbors stepped aside as Sarah walked toward the door.

No one followed her.

Outside, she paused beside the cracked coffee cup.

For the first time, she looked small.
