Chapter 8 - Sarah’s Old Photograph

Noah returned to the farmhouse while Michael was at a medical appointment.

Sarah was inside packing boxes.

“What are you doing?”

She startled and dropped a stack of papers.

“Helping your father prepare to sell.”

“He never agreed to sell.”

“He can’t afford to stay.”

Noah noticed an old photograph slide from one of the boxes.

It showed Sarah as a young woman beside another woman outside the private maternity clinic.

The other woman was visibly pregnant.

On the back, someone had written:

Two sisters. One mistake. One promise.

Noah looked at Sarah.

“Who is she?”

Sarah snatched the photograph.

“No one you need to know.”

“She has my eyes.”

Sarah’s face went rigid.

Noah took out the ledger copy.

When she saw the surname, she backed into the kitchen table.

“You went looking.”

“I went looking for the truth.”

“You should have left it buried.”

“Why?”

Sarah’s voice broke.

“Because your father would forgive anything you did. But he would never forgive what we did to you.”

Noah stepped closer.

“We?”

Sarah immediately stopped speaking.

👉 For the first time, Sarah admitted she had been involved in Noah’s abandonment—but someone else had made the final decision.
