Chapter 13 - THE FAKE BUSINESS

Carla claimed to run a digital branding agency.

She had no employees.

No office.

No legitimate clients.

Yet Ernest’s account paid monthly consulting fees to the company.

The payments began after Carla gained access to online banking.

Each transfer was small enough to avoid drawing immediate attention.

Nine hundred dollars.

Fourteen hundred.

Twenty-two hundred.

Over time, they totaled more than forty-eight thousand dollars.

Louis stared at her.

“You told me those were client payments.”

“They were reimbursements.”

“For what?”

Carla looked toward Ernest.

May you like

He answered for her.

“For nothing.”
