Chapter 21 - THE NIGHT THEY LOST THE HOUSE

Louis and Carla were permitted to collect essential belongings.

They had seventy-two hours to arrange removal of the rest.

Louis stood in the hallway surrounded by suitcases.

“This is still my home.”

Ernest looked at him.

“You made it a place where I was afraid to sit at my own table.”

Louis’s eyes filled.

“I’m your son.”

“Yes.”

“Doesn’t that mean anything?”

“It meant enough for me to carry you for thirty-six years.”

May you like

Ernest opened the front door.

“It does not mean I must let you destroy me.”
