Harold’s car was found at the airport.
He never boarded a flight.
Security footage showed him leaving the parking garage in another vehicle.
Police began treating him as a possible flight risk.
Daniel’s attorney froze every account connected to VHC Restoration.
The company had already moved most of the stolen money.
$74,000 went toward luxury purchases.
$52,000 paid private debts.
Another $40,000 disappeared into a second shell company.
The final $20,000 led somewhere unexpected.
A private medical clinic.
The invoice belonged to Vanessa.
Daniel immediately feared she was sick.
The truth was different.
The clinic specialized in fertility treatment.
Vanessa had undergone procedures for months without telling him.
That information alone meant nothing criminal.
But the payment source did.
She had used Lily’s trust money.
Daniel felt anger rise again.
Then his attorney warned him not to jump ahead.

Investigators searched Vanessa’s laptop.
Deleted emails revealed regular contact with Harold.
The earliest messages were almost a year old.
At first they discussed ordinary household expenses.

Vanessa repeatedly asked what would happen if Daniel became unable to serve as trustee.
Harold explained the process.
Months later, the messages became darker.
Vanessa complained Daniel would never voluntarily give up control.

But someone else appeared in their messages.
A lawyer named Stephen Cole.
Daniel knew the name.
Stephen had prepared several documents for the Carter family years earlier.
He was retired now.
According to the emails, Vanessa had been trying to obtain examples of Daniel’s older signatures from archived legal files.
Stephen never replied.
Then Daniel remembered something.
Six months earlier, Vanessa told him Stephen had died.
Daniel had even sent condolences to the family.
His attorney checked.
Stephen Cole was alive.
He had not retired voluntarily.
He had disappeared from public practice after a serious stroke.
He was living in an assisted-care facility outside Philadelphia.
Police contacted the facility.
Stephen could still communicate.
And when investigators showed him Vanessa’s photograph, his reaction was immediate.
He recognized her.
She had visited him twice.
