Chapter 15 - The Mission That Was Never Buried

I opened the envelope alone.

Not because I was afraid.

Because some decisions belong only to the person making them.

Inside was not an order.

Not a command.

A letter.

A record of everything I chose to protect.

Everything I sacrificed.

Everything my family never knew.

I read slowly.

And for the first time in years…

I didn’t feel the need to prove anything.

My father called me a failure because he only saw what I refused to show.

My mother judged me because she feared what she didn’t understand.

Jason admired a version of success that was visible.

None of them knew the truth.

I had never been lost.

I had been waiting.

The final page contained one sentence.

A sentence that explained why the commander stopped an entire Navy graduation ceremony for me.

A sentence that made me realize the secret I buried was never really buried.

It was waiting for the right person to uncover it.

The message read:

“Colonel Olivia Whitmore, your decision has been received—now the world is waiting to see if you will return.”
