Chapter 3 - The Folder Beneath My Chair

The commander asked me to stand.

I did.

Slowly.

Not dramatically.

Not for attention.

But the moment I rose, something happened.

My posture changed.

My shoulders straightened.

My breathing became controlled.

A habit.

A discipline.

Something my family had never seen.

My father noticed.

His expression tightened.

Because suddenly the woman he spent years calling weak didn’t look weak anymore.

The commander picked up the leather folder.

He didn’t open it.

He handed it back.

“Still sealed.”

“Yes.”

“Good.”

Jason stepped closer.

“Can someone explain?”

The commander looked at him.

“Not everything belongs to you.”

That sentence hit Jason harder than an insult.

Because his entire life, everything belonged to him.

Attention.

Praise.

Approval.

The family name.

I looked at my brother.

“You never asked.”

He frowned.

“Asked what?”

“Why I left.”

His expression changed slightly.

Because the answer was uncomfortable.

He never asked.

Nobody did.

They only judged the absence.

They never cared about the reason.

My mother looked away.

That told me enough.

The commander turned toward the ceremony field.

“We will continue shortly.”

But nobody moved.

Because the ceremony had already changed.

The graduation was no longer about Jason.

It was about the person standing beside him.

The person they ignored.

The person they tried to erase.

Then the commander received a message.

His expression changed.

Only slightly.

But I noticed.

“What happened?”

He looked at the phone.

Then at the sealed folder.

“Someone knows you are here.”

My stomach tightened.

Because that was impossible.

May you like

Nobody was supposed to know.
