Chapter 12 - Yasmin’s Escape Plan

Yasmin’s offshore accounts held more than twelve million dollars.

The money came from household budgets, trust distributions, false consulting fees, and payments routed through shell companies.

She had purchased property in Portugal under another name.

A private flight was scheduled for the evening after Alana’s forced signature.

Mark and Gillian were not listed as passengers.

Yasmin planned to leave them behind.

Mark read the flight manifest in silence.

“She said we would move together.”

Daniel gave him no comfort.

“She lied.”

Mark began cooperating fully.

Not because it excused him.

Because he finally understood he had been both an abuser and a tool.

He turned over passwords.

He identified attorneys Yasmin had consulted.

He explained how she persuaded him that Alana intended to destroy the family.

During trial preparation, Mark requested a meeting with Alana.

She refused at first.

Then she agreed under supervision.

His hair had grown thinner.

The authority in his posture was gone.

“I loved you,” he said.

Alana looked at her bandaged arm.

“You loved having a daughter who obeyed.”

His eyes filled.

“You’re right.”

The admission hurt more than denial might have.

“I thought control was protection,” he continued.

“You threatened to break my other arm.”

“I know.”

“You do not get to ask me to forget that.”

“I’m not asking.”

He apologized without requesting forgiveness.

Alana listened.

Then she left.

Yasmin refused every plea deal.

She believed the hidden accounts would remain inaccessible and the family would eventually protect its reputation.

Instead, Alana authorized full transparency.

The company disclosed the Reed history.

The offshore theft.

The coercion.

The security failures.

Darcy Biotechnologies’ value dropped sharply for two weeks.

Then something unexpected happened.

Employees supported the reform plan.

Medical partners praised the acknowledgment of Samuel Reed.

Researchers joined the new Reed-Darcy Innovation Foundation.

Public confidence began returning.

Yasmin’s greatest weapon had been scandal.

Alana removed its power by telling the truth herself.

At trial, the hidden-camera footage played before the jury.

Mark’s bat.

Yasmin’s demands.

Gillian’s phone.

Alana’s signature.

Then Alana’s final sentence:

“The investigation just started.”
