Chapter 7 - The Secret in Vivian’s Medical File
Yasmin claimed Vivian’s final will was fraudulent.
“She was losing her mind.”
Daniel rejected the accusation.
Vivian had undergone independent capacity evaluations before signing every amendment.
Yasmin insisted the doctors had been influenced.
Then she revealed that she possessed a private medical report showing Vivian had early cognitive decline.
Alana had never seen it.
Mark had.
That was why he believed the will could be overturned.
“Where is the report?” Daniel asked.
Yasmin looked toward the closed black folders on the desk.
The forensic investigator opened one.
Inside was a photocopied neurological assessment.
The report stated that Vivian suffered memory loss and impaired judgment.
The signature belonged to Dr. Robert Kline.
Daniel examined it.
“Dr. Kline never treated Vivian.”
Yasmin’s expression hardened.
“He evaluated her privately.”
Alana remembered the name.
Kline had once worked for Darcy Biotechnologies.
Vivian fired him after discovering he had manipulated trial data.
Daniel called the physician.
Kline initially denied writing the report.
Then investigators showed him payment records.
He confessed.
Yasmin had paid him to create a false medical assessment after Vivian transferred voting shares to Alana.
The report was intended for a future lawsuit.
Mark had believed it was real.
“You knew the will was valid,” he said to Yasmin.
“I knew Vivian was making a mistake.”
“You made me believe Alana manipulated her.”
“You were easier to motivate when angry.”
The words humiliated him more than any financial loss.
Gillian lowered her head.
Alana felt no satisfaction.
Her family had become a machine built from lies, each person using the next.
Daniel opened Vivian’s genuine medical records.
They showed no cognitive impairment.
In fact, Vivian had requested repeated evaluations because she anticipated a capacity challenge.
She had planned for Yasmin’s fraud.
But one page contained a surprising note.
Vivian had met privately with Gillian three months before her death.
Alana looked at her sister.
Gillian’s face went pale.
“What did she tell you?”
Gillian began shaking.
“She offered me a chance to help protect you.”
Alana stared at the phone in Gillian’s hand.
“You knew about the protocol?”
“Part of it.”
“Then why did you film me?”
Gillian’s tears finally fell.
