Chapter 10 - Confrontation at Pediatric

Our police cruiser slammed to a halt outside ER.
I kicked the driver door open, drawing weapon.
Clara ran beside me through the automatic glass entrance.
We sprinted up the stairs toward the pediatric floor.
Alarm sirens wailed loudly through the bright hospital halls.
Patients and nurses were hiding behind closed doors terrified.
I rounded the corner of the fifth floor hallway.
Detective Miller was dragging little Lily by her arm.
He carried sleeping baby Leo in his left arm.
Two corrupt patrol officers stood guard behind Miller today.
Lily saw me and let out a loud scream:
"Officer Rachel! Save us! He has a gun!"
Detective Miller turned around sharply, raising his weapon fast.
"Back off, Rachel! I am enforcing federal orders!"
I raised my Glock pistol, leveling it at head.
"Put the children down right now, Miller!" I.
"Your fake warrant isn't worth the paper printed!"
Clara stepped out from behind me into hallway light.
Detective Miller's eyes bulged in pure, shock.
His face went completely pale as he saw Clara.
"Clara... you were supposed to be dead!"
"I survived your fire, Miller!" Clara shouted fiercely.
"And your entire syndicate ends tonight in this hall!"
The two patrol officers hesitated, looking at Miller nervously.
They realized they were caught in a massive kidnapping.
"Miller, you said the mother was dead!" officer.
"We didn't sign up to shoot active police officers!"
"Shut up and hold your weapons!" Miller roared.
Miller's hands began shaking violently under the pressure.
He realized his corrupt scheme was disintegrating in seconds.
I took one slow, deliberate step closer to Miller.
"Look around you, Miller. You have nowhere left."
"Hand over the kids and surrender your service weapon."
Miller's face twisted into an expression of pure madness.
He tightened his grip on little Lily's small arm.
"If I go down, the kids go down!"
Miller raised his pistol straight toward little Lily's head.
My heart stopped beating as he touched trigger guard.
Before he could pull the steel trigger down today,
Nurse Nora stepped out from a utility closet behind.
