Chapter 5 - The Bedroom Fight

Landlord Vance pointed his heavy revolver at my chest.
"I knew you would come back for evidence, Rachel."
"Chief Harrison promised me a million dollars for drive."
I stood perfectly still in the dim bedroom corner.
My right hand rested near my service weapon holster.
"You helped him kidnap my sister Clara, didn't you?"
Vance chuckled softly, taking a slow step toward me.
"Clara was getting too close to our offshore accounts."
"We locked her in the abandoned docks storage cellar."
"By midnight tonight, she will be on a barge."
That was all the information I needed to hear.
I kicked the bedroom lamp hard toward his legs.
The glass lamp struck Vance's knees with force.
He let out a loud yell, discharging his weapon.
The gunshot echoed deafeningly in the small closed space.
The bullet shattered the plaster wall behind my head.
I lunged forward, grabbing Vance's wrist with both.
I twisted his arm downward using combat martial training.
The heavy revolver clattered onto the hardwood floor loudly.
I slammed my elbow hard against Vance's jawline.
His head snapped back as he fell onto floor.
He groaned in pain, clutching his broken bloody jaw.
I pulled cold steel handcuffs from my duty belt.
I snapped the cuffs tightly around Vance's wrists.
I secured him to the heavy iron radiator pipe.
"Where at the docks is Clara held, Vance?"
Vance spat blood onto the floor, glaring up angrily.
"Warehouse Nine, lower level, you foolish bitch!"
"Harrison has ten armed guards watching her right now!"
"You walk in there, and you die tonight!"
I grabbed the black satellite drive and Clara's diary.
I stuffed the evidence deep inside my tactical jacket.
I picked up Vance's dropped revolver as extra gear.
Police sirens began wailing loudly down the street outside.
Neighbors had called 911 after hearing the gunshot.
Harrison's corrupt patrol squad was heading here right now.
I sprinted out the bedroom door to fire escape.
I climbed down the slippery iron stairs into alley.
Cold rain washed over my face as I ran.
I jumped into my unmarked police vehicle and started.
I needed to get to Warehouse Nine before midnight.
I needed to save my sister before she vanished.
