Chapter 11 - The Fall of Miller
The heavy red extinguisher struck Miller's skull hard.
A loud metallic clang echoed down the hospital hallway.
Miller let out a painful groan, dropping his weapon.
He collapsed onto the floor, releasing little Lily's arm.
Baby Leo slipped from his grip toward floor tiles.
Clara leaped forward with lightning speed, catching Leo safely.
She pulled her baby boy tightly against her chest.
I tackled Detective Miller onto the hard floor surface.
I twisted his arms behind his back with force.
Cold steel handcuffs clicked tightly around his thick wrists.
The two corrupt patrol officers immediately dropped their weapons.
They raised their hands into air, surrendering without fight.
"Don't shoot! We surrender! Miller forced us!"
I kicked their dropped guns far down hallway floor.
Nurse Nora pulled little Lily into a warm hug.
Lily ran straight into her mother Clara's open arms.
Tears of joy streamed down Clara's bruised baby cheeks.
"My babies... you are safe now..." Clara sobbed.
"Mommy is never leaving you ever again, sweethearts."
I pulled Detective Miller up to his feet hard.
His forehead was bleeding from the heavy extinguisher blow.
He glared at me with deep, bitter, cornered hatred.
"You think you won, Rachel?" Miller spat out.
"Chief Harrison has already left city for private airfield!"
"He is flying to Panama with thirty million dollars!"
I reached into my pocket, pulling out black drive.
"He won't get far without this drive, Miller."
I walked over to the hospital security desktop computer.
I plugged Clara's black satellite drive into master port.
The system requested a secure federal clearance access code.
Clara walked over, typing her private auditor security clearance.
The screen flashed green: FEDERAL DOJ SERVER CONNECTED.
The automated upload progress bar began moving across screen.
CRIMINAL INDICTMENT FILES UPLOADING TO DEPARTMENT JUSTICE.
EIGHTY PERCENT... NINETY PERCENT... UPLOAD COMPLETE SUCCESSFULLY.
An official notification popped up on the monitor screen:
FEDERAL ARREST WARRANTS ISSUED FOR ARTHUR HARRISON.
A collective sigh of immense relief filled hallway space.
Chief Harrison's global criminal enterprise was legally dismantled now.
Every bank account was frozen by federal order effective.
Every corrupt city official listed was being arrested tonight.
Nurse Nora smiled through tears, holding Lily's hand.
"You did it, Rachel. You saved your family."
I looked at Clara and her two sweet children.
The long night nightmare was coming to a close.
