Chapter 14 - The Final Muster

The courtroom cleared out as guards led Victoria away.

Her weeping cries faded down the long marble hallway.

The ten-million-dollar family estate was fully restored to me.

My father's memory and honor were completely vindicated today.

I walked out of the courthouse onto grand steps.

Bright morning sunlight bathed the stone plaza area below.

Dozens of news reporters cheered and applauded my strength.

"Commander Bennett! How do you feel about verdict?"

A female reporter asked, holding a microphone out close.

I looked directly into the main television camera lens.

"Truth and honor will always defeat cruelty and greed."

I stated calmly, my voice resonating across the nation.

I stepped into my pickup truck, driving to cemetery.

The quiet green hill overlooked the calm blue river.

I walked up to my parents' joint granite headstone.

I set two fresh red roses onto the polished stone.

I stood at attention, saluting their resting place quietly.

"You can rest in peace now, Mom and Dad."

I whispered, feeling a deep wave peace fill chest.

The long three-year nightmare was officially over for me.

I returned to my active military duties at base.

I was promoted to Colonel of Special Operations command.

Two months passed peacefully in my new command assignment.

I lived in a cozy house near the base lake.

Tonight was a quiet Sunday evening in late spring.

I sat on my front porch, drinking hot tea.

The sunset painted the sky in shades pink gold.
