General Vance brought the satellite phone to his ear.
"General Vance speaking, report situation immediately," he ordered.
Static crackled over the secure military frequency line.
"General! Team six is under fire at airfield!"
A tactical officer shouted through the phone speaker clearly.
"Subject Daniel Reed is heavily armed with private mercenaries!"
"He breached our primary perimeter fence two minutes ago!"
"We need immediate air support and tactical armor units!"
General Vance's jaw tightened into a rigid steel line.
"Hold your perimeter, team six! Backup is inbound!"
He ended the call and turned directly toward me.
"Commander Bennett, I need you on that chopper."
"You know Reed's tactical movement patterns better than anyone."
"Will you help us bring this traitor down today?"
I did not hesitate for a single second today.
"I am ready, General," I answered with determination.
I adjusted my Army dress uniform jacket and cap.
We walked out of the courtroom toward the elevator.
Press reporters chased us down the marble hallway floor.
"Commander Bennett! Will you testify at the murder trial?"
"Commander! Is the Pentagon investigating a security leak?"
Secret Service guards pushed the press back with shields.
We stepped into the private executive elevator doors fast.
The heavy metal doors slid shut, cutting off noise.
The elevator descended swiftly to the underground parking garage.
A black military transport van sat idling in darkness.
Armed soldiers in full tactical gear held doors open.
We climbed inside the vehicle, slamming heavy doors shut.
The driver hit the siren and accelerated up ramp.
Tires squealed loudly as we burst onto city street.
We sped toward the nearby military airfield pad fast.
A black Blackhawk helicopter sat waiting with blades spinning.
Thick wind whipped across our faces as we ran.
