Chapter 2 - The Mockery of Sacrifices

The two officers stood tall in the sunlit entryway.

They wore dark green dress uniforms with golden shoulder stars.

Their polished leather boots clicked sharply on marble floor tiles.

Victoria swallowed hard, her throat moving in sudden panic.

She tried to regain her previous arrogant, controlling composure.

She smoothed down the front of her beige jacket nervously.

"Judge, this is an ongoing private family estate hearing!"

Victoria yelled out, trying to dismiss the new arrivals.

"These military people have no standing in civilian court!"

Judge Harrison slammed his heavy wooden gavel down hard.

The loud crack echoed through the massive high ceiling space.

"Silence in my courtroom, Mrs. Bennett!" the judge barked.

Major General Vance walked slowly down the central aisle.

Beside him walked Colonel Miller from the Pentagon office.

Their faces were carved from pure, unyielding granite stone.

General Vance did not look at the shouting spectators.

His sharp blue eyes locked directly onto my uniform jacket.

He raised his right hand to his brow cap.

General Vance delivered a crisp, flawless military salute to me.

The entire gallery gasped in utter, total disbelief again.

A two-star general was saluting the accused young woman.

Victoria's lawyer backed away from her side in shock.

He realized his client had lied about my service record.

"General Vance, what is the meaning of this intrusion?"

Judge Harrison asked, lowering his reading glasses to desk.

General Vance lowered his arm and faced the bench.

"I am here on official Department of Defense business."

"Commander Mara Bennett is an active classified operational officer."

General Vance's voice boomed across the silent courtroom.

"Her military service is registered under national security clearance."

Victoria's face turned completely gray like wet sidewalk ash.

Her hands began shaking uncontrollably inside her blazer pockets.

She realized her grand scheme was unraveling in seconds.

She had spent three years claiming I was a fraud.
