Chapter 9 - The Stolen Medals

The helicopter rose rapidly into the cloudy gray sky.
Engine roars filled the cabin as we headed south.
I strapped myself into the tactical seat harness securely.
Colonel Miller handed me a heavy tactical vest unit.
"Put this on, Commander," Colonel Miller told me.
I pulled the black Kevlar vest over uniform.
I checked the magazine clip of my sidearm weapon.
The familiar weight of steel gave me cold focus.
On the communication headset, updates came in fast.
"Target plane is preparing for emergency runway takeoff!"
The field commander reported over the radio headset line.
"They are firing heavy automatic weapons at our blockade!"
"Do not let that aircraft leave the ground!"
General Vance commanded into his helmet microphone system.
Our Blackhawk chopper banked sharply over the Virginia woods.
Below us, the private airfield strip came into view.
Muzzle flashes lit up the dark asphalt runway below.
A luxury private jet was rolling down runway fast.
Two tactical armored SUVs were chasing the moving jet.
Daniel Reed stood near the open plane side door.
He was firing an assault rifle at the vehicles.
"Pilot, drop us right on that runway!" I shouted.
The Blackhawk descended rapidly through the cold wind.
The helicopter hovered ten feet above the speeding jet.
Thick dust clouds billowed across the asphalt strip.
I unhooked my safety harness, standing near edge.
I looked down directly at Daniel Reed's face.
He raised his rifle, looking up at our chopper.
His eyes widened in sheer shock as he saw me.
He recognized the woman he thought was dead forever.
I leaped from the helicopter doorway down onto jet.
My boots slammed heavily onto the metal aircraft wing.
The impact jarred my body, but I stayed standing.

I drew my sidearm, leveling it at Daniel's chest.
