The person walked forward.
An older Marine.
Someone who had served with me.
He didn’t look at the wealthy families.
He looked at Cameron.

The courtroom held its breath.
He explained that my service record was never hidden because of shame.
It was hidden because of missions.
Decisions.
Responsibilities.
Things civilians were never supposed to know.
But someone had tried to use pieces of it against me.
The judge understood.
The wealthy fathers did not.
They had underestimated the wrong person.
