Chapter 3 - The Father Who Knew Too Much

The courtroom went quiet after that single word.

Stop.

The wealthy father immediately tried to recover.

“I mean… there’s no reason to rush.”

The judge looked at him.

“Sit down, Mr. Whitmore.”

He did.

But his confidence was gone.

I watched him carefully.

He wasn’t worried about what the evidence might show.

He was worried about what it already proved.

The evidence bag remained unopened.

That bothered everyone.

Especially them.

My attorney leaned toward me.

“Did you know anything about this?”

I shook my head.

“No.”

Because I didn’t.

I only knew what happened to my son.

The rest was still hidden.

The judge looked toward Cameron.

“Son, are you comfortable continuing?”

Cameron looked at me.

I nodded.

He swallowed.

“Yes, sir.”

That answer took courage.

More than anyone in that room understood.

Then Holloway spoke again.

“You’re letting a child manipulate this courtroom.”

My jaw tightened.

But I stayed silent.

Because I wanted him to keep talking.

People reveal themselves when they believe they are winning.

Then the judge requested the sealed Marine file I had submitted earlier.

The clerk placed it on the bench.

The wealthy fathers exchanged looks.

They didn’t understand why a military record mattered.

But I did.

Because my past was the one thing I never wanted used as a weapon.

The judge broke the seal.

And his expression slowly changed.
