Natalie fired through the doorway, forcing Mercer back.
Ortiz entered from the rear and pulled Claire to safety.
Mercer escaped again through an underground exit.
Claire survived the gunshot.
Before surgery, she told Natalie Locker 17 was inside the old Austin bus terminal.
Natalie and Ortiz reached it before dawn.
The key card opened a narrow storage locker.
Inside were clothes, cash, passports, and a tablet.
A video file began playing automatically.
A man in his late twenties appeared.
He had Natalie’s eyes.
“My name is Evan Reed,” he said. “If you’re watching this, Mercer found me.”
Natalie covered her mouth.
Evan explained that he had spent years gathering proof against the network.
Claire eventually contacted him and offered information in exchange for protection.
He did not trust her.
But he used her records to identify missing children and corrupt officials.
He had planned to testify.
Then Judge Price learned he was alive.
The video ended with an address near Lake Buchanan.
Natalie traveled there with Ortiz.
They found a small cabin.
The door was open.
Inside, a man lay on the floor.
Alive.
Natalie knelt beside him.
“Evan?”
His eyes opened.
“Natalie?”
She cried for the first time in years.
Evan had been drugged but not seriously injured.
He had one more piece of evidence.
A ledger showing Thomas Monroe’s original payment to remove Ashley from Sarah.
But the final signature was not Thomas’s.
It belonged to Sarah’s mother, Evelyn.
Sarah had spent years believing her father stole the baby.
