Chapter 16 - The Archive Under the Tower

Natalie, Evan, Ortiz, and federal agents entered Monroe Aerospace before dawn.

Sarah used her inheritance authority to grant access.

The headquarters stood empty.

Demolition charges had already been installed.

Claire’s instructions led them to the executive elevator.

A hidden button opened a basement level not shown on any plan.

Inside was a climate-controlled archive.

Shelves held adoption files, payment ledgers, photographs, and recordings.

Thomas Monroe had documented everything.

Not because he felt guilt.

Because he wanted leverage.

One recording showed Evelyn arranging Ashley’s removal.

Another showed Judge Price bribing Mercer.

A third captured Thomas ordering threats against Sarah’s investigators.

The conspiracy was no longer deniable.

Then the demolition timer activated early.

Someone had entered a remote command.

Mercer, calling from detention through a smuggled phone, had triggered the system.

Natalie ordered everyone out.

Evan remained behind to copy the final server.

“Leave it!”

“It has the names of children still missing.”

The ceiling shook.

Natalie ran back for him.

Together they disconnected the server and carried it toward the elevator.

The power failed.

They climbed the emergency stairs as explosions began below.

Concrete cracked.

Smoke filled the stairwell.

Ortiz held the exit door open.

Natalie and Evan crossed seconds before part of the tower collapsed.

The archive was destroyed.

The server survived.

Federal technicians recovered the full database.

Thirty-eight living victims were identified.

Six remained missing.

The evidence also revealed Claire had not acted alone after her supposed death.

She continued selling information to Thomas.

Her cooperation was strategic, not remorseful.

When confronted, Claire smiled.

“I never claimed to be good.”

Ashley stood behind the interview-room glass.

“She’s the one who called my name from the bedroom.”

Natalie nodded.

But Andrew had also been behind that door.

Ashley had heard two versions of her father’s voice because Claire had used a recording device.

The mystery of the night was finally clear.

Except for one detail.

The untouched meal contained no poison.

The sedative had been placed in Ashley’s medicine by someone who entered before Claire.

👉 Someone else had drugged Ashley before the attack, and the evidence pointed toward Andrew.
