Chapter 11 - Diane Loses Control

Claire placed the court order on the conference table.

Diane read the first page.

Her face changed.

“This is invalid.”

“It was signed by a district judge this morning.”

Jason pushed himself upright.

“What heir?”

Claire closed the file.

“That information is protected.”

Diane turned toward Robert.

“You told me Logan had no children.”

“I believed he didn’t.”

“You believe whatever the last person tells you.”

Robert flinched.

Claire stepped between them.

“You built your entire scheme on my father’s shame and grief.”

Diane laughed.

“Your father needed me.”

“You made sure he did.”

Claire listed the shell companies.

The manipulated loans.

The inflated vendor contracts.

The missing freight.

Jason interrupted.

“You can’t prove I knew.”

Claire slid a purchase receipt across the table.

The prepaid phone.

Purchased with Jason’s corporate card.

His face drained.

Diane looked at him with naked fury.

Not concern.

Not fear for her son.

Anger that he had left evidence.
