Chapter 9 - Robert’s Secret Signature
After Robert admitted he had signed something, Claire ordered the conference room doors locked.
No one was leaving with company documents.
Diane smiled thinly.
“Tell her.”
Robert sat slowly.
His hands shook around the bronze award.
“After Logan died, Diane said the company might collapse.”
“What did she ask you to sign?”
“A succession agreement.”
Claire’s voice hardened.
“Giving Bennett Freight to Logan Mercer?”
Robert nodded.
Jason lifted his head from the table.
“My cousin was supposed to take control after Robert stepped down.”
“Why him?” Claire demanded.
Diane answered.
“Because he is family.”
Claire laughed once.
Coldly.
“He is your family.”
Robert closed his eyes.
Diane had told him the agreement was temporary.
She claimed Logan Mercer would secure emergency financing.
Once the company stabilized, ownership would return to the Bennetts.
Robert believed her.
He signed without independent counsel.
But there was another clause.
If Bennett Freight defaulted on any Mercer-backed loan, ownership transferred immediately.
The loans were already in default.
