Chapter 12 - What Diane Tried to Stop

We refused to speculate about Charles’s death.
There was no evidence Diane had physically harmed him, and grief could make people imagine monsters where facts were enough.
The records told a simpler story.
And somehow, it was still devastating.
Charles had attempted to revise his estate twice before the final amendment.
The first appointment with his attorney had been canceled.
Diane had called the office claiming Charles was too ill.
The second packet disappeared from his home study.
An old email showed Charles asking Martin whether he knew where it went.
Martin claimed he didn’t.
Then Charles quietly hired a different attorney.
That produced the amendment protecting Lily’s future share.
Diane hadn’t caused Charles’s illness.
But evidence indicated she and Martin had tried to delay changes that threatened their access to company money.
Ryan struggled with that truth.
“She sat beside his hospital bed.”
I didn’t know what to say.
“She held his hand,” he continued. “And all that time…”
He stopped.
I took his hand.
“You don’t have to finish that sentence.”
The investigation widened.
Martin eventually retained counsel and began cooperating.
Not because he became noble.
Because the evidence against him was overwhelming.
His records helped confirm the financial scheme.
Evelyn’s notary journal contained no legitimate entry for my supposed guardianship signature.
The document had been falsely notarized.
And Diane’s recovered messages showed repeated instructions to build a “pattern” against me.
But she still insisted the kennel incident was isolated.
Then investigators reviewed the cloud archive we had preserved.
There were more recordings.
Much more.
On one afternoon, Diane locked Lily inside the kennel for eleven minutes.
Another day, seven.
Another, fourteen.
I had to leave the room.
Ryan watched the rest with our attorney.
When he came home, he sat beside Lily’s crib long after she fell asleep.
Then he whispered:
“She did it nine times.”
Nine.
My daughter had been trapped inside that cage nine times while I trusted Diane to protect her.
And the tenth recording contained something different.
May you like
Diane wasn’t alone.
👉 On the final recovered video, another person stood beside the kennel—and what that person did would destroy Diane’s last defense.
