Chapter 10 - Susan’s Real Role

Detective Ruiz turned toward Susan.

“What recording?”

Susan requested her attorney again.

Heather stared at her mother.

“What did you record?”

“I recorded nothing.”

Chloe watched Heather’s confusion.

Kyle had kept his sister uninformed about some parts of the plan.

But Susan knew everything.

“Rachel recorded a meeting,” Chloe said.

Susan remained silent.

“When did it happen?”

No answer.

Norman looked at her with disgust.

“You sat there while your daughter hit me, and you still thought you controlled this.”

Susan’s composure cracked.

“Do not lecture me.”

“You watched your son rob us.”

“My son deserved more than Chloe gave him.”

Chloe felt the old wound behind those words.

Susan had never accepted that Kyle’s lifestyle came from Chloe.

She wanted to rewrite dependence as entitlement.

Detective Ruiz asked, “Did you participate in planning the fraudulent loan?”

Susan’s attorney had not arrived.

She should have remained silent.

Instead, rage pushed her into speaking.

“I told him the conservatorship was cleaner than divorce.”

Heather stared at her.

Chloe did not move.

Susan realized what she had admitted.

Detective Ruiz repeated carefully, “You advised your son to seek control of his wife’s assets through a false incapacity claim?”

“I did not say false.”

“You knew Chloe was working in Denver.”

Susan looked away.

“You knew she had not been detained.”

Silence.

“You also signed the power of attorney as a witness.”

“I trusted my son.”

“And the message instructing Heather to keep Chloe away from the office?”

Susan’s face tightened.

Detective Ruiz wrote something down.

Heather’s fear turned into anger.

“You said nobody would be charged.”

Susan hissed, “Be quiet.”

“You said Kyle would handle everything.”

“He was supposed to.”

“He left us here.”

Susan had no answer.

Heather began revealing details quickly.

Kyle and Susan had designed the conservatorship strategy.

Rachel created the financial documents.

Heather notarized them and allowed her company to receive the money.

Evan prepared the sale.

Kyle planned to blame Chloe’s supposed instability if anything was discovered.

Susan promised Heather they would all leave for Mexico once the funds cleared.

But Heather had recently discovered Rachel intended to keep the money and flee with Kyle alone.

That was why she had secretly copied several messages.

Heather unlocked her phone and handed it to Detective Ruiz.

“I want a deal.”
