Chapter 4 - Raven Three
The designation Raven Three belonged to a joint operations aircraft that went down in Khost Province.
Owen’s SEAL team had been returning from a night mission when the aircraft took fire.
The impact threw men across the cabin.
Fuel spread.
Smoke filled the fuselage.
Owen remembered metal screaming against stone.
He remembered trying to reach two unconscious teammates while flames moved across the floor.
Then a woman appeared through the smoke.
Army Major Harper Bellamy.
She had been coordinating evacuation routes from a nearby command post.
When communications failed, she drove toward the crash instead of away from it.
She entered the burning aircraft three times.
On the second entry, part of the interior panel collapsed across her shoulder.
The heated metal burned through her uniform.
She still carried one of Owen’s men out.
On the third entry, an explosion threw her against the wreckage.
Owen lost consciousness before seeing what happened next.
He woke at a medical facility days later.
Three members of his team survived.
The official casualty briefing listed Major Bellamy as presumed dead.
Her body had not been recovered.
Owen spent years believing she remained beneath the wreckage.
He wrote letters to her family.
None were answered.
He recommended her for the highest recognition his testimony could support.
The submission disappeared into classified review.
Eventually, Owen was told to stop asking questions.
The operation involved intelligence assets no agency wanted publicly connected to the crash.
Now the woman he had mourned stood barefoot on a suburban patio, clutching a torn shirt over the same scar.
Owen lowered his salute only when Harper gave a nearly invisible nod.
Vanessa looked between them.
“This is ridiculous.”
Owen turned toward her.
