Chapter 14 - His Father’s Sealed Statement

The oldest board member, Henry Wallace, removed a sealed envelope from the company safe.

Brandon recognized his father’s handwriting.

Henry explained that the envelope could only be opened if Madeline attempted to remove Brandon or challenge the legitimacy of his descendants.

The exact event she had just set in motion.

Inside was a notarized statement.

Brandon’s father described Madeline’s treatment of Elias.

He documented her refusal to obtain medical care, her threats, her lies, and her efforts to hide the child.

He also revoked every management right she might claim if she ever repeated that abuse against another generation.

The company shares she believed she controlled had never belonged to her.

They had been held in trust for Brandon—and for Elias, if he could be found.

Madeline gripped the conference table.

“My husband was manipulated.”

Henry shook his head.

“He recorded the statement in my office.”

A video file appeared on the screen.

Brandon’s father looked older and exhausted.

“If Madeline ever calls a child illegitimate because that child shows signs of the condition Elias inherited, understand that she is not protecting this family. She is protecting her lie.”

Brandon could not breathe.

His father had known.

He had tried to build a safeguard from beyond the grave.

The video continued.

“Brandon, if you see this, I failed your brother. Do not fail your child.”

Nicole covered her mouth.

Madeline slammed her palm against the table.

“Turn it off!”

No one moved.

The board voted immediately to suspend her access to company property, accounts, and records.

Madeline stared into the camera at Brandon.

“You think you won?”

“No,” he said. “I think Luke survived you.”

She leaned closer to the screen.
